For those who enjoy interacting with children, there are several opportunities right on campus. Foulkeways has a Child Care Center located on the lower level of the Community Center and many delight in seeing the energetic children coming and going throughout the day. Residents are welcome to read to the children, help with art projects or accompany them on walks. The Center’s intergenerational programs also include visits and activities with residents living in our health care facilities, Abington House, our Assisted Living facility, and Gwynedd House, our Skilled Nursing Care facility. Residents are invited to participate in a Pen Pal program with third-graders from a local elementary school. In addition to exchanging letters they also visit each other and enjoy special times together such as pool parties, tours of apartments, and picnic at Foulkeways. Computers are fun! Just ask any of the 4th and 5th graders who come from Abington Friends School, with their teacher, to show residents how to use email and surf the web. Residents learn computer lingo and enjoy the interaction with their computer-savvy new friends, who call their trainees Cyberfoulkes. |
