Because Foulkeways was built on land given to Gwynedd Monthly Meeting by Charles Beaumont in memory of his wife May Foulke Beaumont, in 1945, no start up monies were spent to acquire the land which made up the original 67 acres of our 110 acre campus. Built in 1967 for a total of 8.6 million dollars, our debt has been low and the original mortgage was paid off in 1992.
As a not-for-profit corporation we have no stockholders or for-profit corporate structures expecting a return on investments, and our Standard & Poor's rating has remained high over the past 40 years.
Our public reputation for excellence continues to drive inquiries to our admissions department, with "word of mouth" referrals servings as our third largest lead generator. Our Priority List (waiting list) often contains extended family members of current residents, second generation, adult children, and friends from our residents’ old neighborhoods. We have residents from 28 states living at Foulkeways, and one resident from the United Kingdom. Quakers no longer make up the majority of residents as they once did, and our statistics today boast community members who are Jewish, Catholic and Protestant, with a small sampling of other religious sects as well. All are welcome to worship in their own way in our community.
Foulkeways at Gwynedd does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age, handicap or sexual orientation. |
