The Quaker belief that affirms all people have God within, and therefore all can contribute to the greater good with their unique gifts, has shaped the Foulkeways history. Foulkeways has always been an interactive community of mutual respect, and all are equal members of this community in this belief. It is no surprise then, that the Foulkeways Residents Association (FRA) has developed a strong history of volunteerism and self-governance. The FRA, run by resident volunteers, organizes and finances resident activities and

helps resolve issues that arise. It is run by a Board of volunteer directors, and under the guidance of the FRA Board, 110 resident committees have formed. Foulkeways takes particular pride in its own group of professionals who have undertaken an ambitious program to uncover ways to reduce the community operating costs, as well as the volunteers who head the Performing Arts committee, responsible for booking talented professional musicians, actors, artists and lecturers of a caliber unmatched by even the most sophisticated communities. Having the majority of residents involved in activities that help or improve the community enables each resident to become a contributing partner in the greater community as a whole.
