The culture of every community is unique in some respects. Foulkeways’ culture is characterized by personal giving, especially of time, creative thought and energy.  In many ways volunteerism defines Foulkeways.  Foulkeways residents support over 150 non-profit organizations through the efforts each year. residents support over 150 non-profit organizations through their volunteer
efforts each year.  Named "Outstanding Non-Profit of the Year" in 2004 by the North Penn Chamber of Commerce, Foulkeways was recognized for the countless hours contributed by both residents and staff to such organizations as The American Red Cross, The Cancer Society, Big Brothers and Sisters, RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Programs), Meals on Wheels, Hospice, Grandparent Programs in area schools, Recycling and many, many more.

Residents also give volunteer hours to Foulkeways that, when totaled equal more than 23,000 hours or the equivalent of 13 full-time employees.  Our volunteers are a wonderful gift to the community, not just for economic purposes.  When you walk into our Community Center you see fresh flowers, creatively arranged and thoughtfully placed by the Flower Committee.  If you visit our wonderful library, you choose books purchased, catalogued and stocked by the Library Committee and if you can no longer read, due to a physical decline, a Foulkeways volunteer will read to you.

The spirit of volunteerism resides in each of us at Foulkeways, as does one of the highest spiritual truths common to all faiths – that in giving to another, we give to ourselves.

“When we toured Foulkeways at Gwynedd, we really sensed the ‘community spirit.’  We chose Foulkeways as a good place to live, both now and in the future…we are very happy here, it’s the retirement destination we had hoped to find.”

Bob & Nony Barr, Foulkeways residents
