Juneteenth, observed on June 19, is a federal holiday also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day. It commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On this day in 1865, people in Texas learned of their freedom, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
Juneteenth offers a time to reflect on the history of emancipation. It honors resilience and perseverance and recognizes the ongoing pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality.
At Foulkeways, we believe that history matters. Many of our residents have witnessed decades of change, progress, and continued work toward justice. Juneteenth offers us an opportunity to reflect on those journeys, share stories across generations, and reaffirm our commitment to building a community rooted in dignity, respect, and inclusion for all.
