Memory Care

Specialized Memory Care and Support

To address the growing needs of Residents needing memory care and support, Foulkeways has developed a universal dementia care initiative to provide specialized memory care and support in all areas of the community. We do not put our Residents in a “place” rather we offer dementia programs where they live.

‘Dream Garden’

A “Dream Garden” memory garden has been built for the entire Foulkeways family including all residents, family, caretakers, and staff to enjoy. It offers a wonderfully secure, accessible, outdoor space to roam without a lot of supervision.

The Dream Garden is part of the overall universal care initiative at Foulkeways to minimize the stigma that some residents and family members endure in locked units where people can feel isolated and stigmatized. The Dream Garden was designed as a journey with rest stops along the path where people can sit by the fountains or by large, vertical sculptures, seasonal native plantings, and other parts of the garden. The garden space provides familiar landmarks so it’s not confusing to people with dementia. There are benches to stop and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, view sculptures, listen to a waterfall, or have a snack or beverage at a community table.

Programs and Services

Foulkeways memory care programs help Residents maintain their sense of dignity, purpose, and self-worth in a secure, safe environment.

Engaging activities and participatory programs geared specifically to the needs and interests of the residents are provided by fully-trained and certified activities coordinators. Staff receives advanced level and ongoing training for support of residents with dementia. Many of our staff and residents volunteer their time to assist with memory care services. Foulkeways encourages learning, growth, social interaction, and access to outside activities both on campus and off. Excursions off-campus include trips to the theatre, museums, parks, and many other local familiar sites.

Some of the memory loss programs Foulkeways utilizes with much success include Music & Memory® and Opening Minds through Art (OMA).
